Tweaking the bike today!!

So we had an anomoly of a weekend... well into the 60's. So while I out grilling burgers and chops, I whipped out the mountainbike. I've had a couple of things done to 'er over the winter and hope everything works out for the season. Let's see... I had the wheel relaced onto a brand new rim. The old one had 2 big hops in it I couldn't get trued out. I had the same Revolution spokes as before, but opted to slap on anno red nipples. Subtle, but definately noticable for those in the know. I also put on a new fork... actually a newer used fork. But I gutted it and put in an Englund Total Air system with the Oil Bath and 85mm of travel. The fork is only a year newer than the old fork which was also gutted and installed Mountainspeed springs and a 75mm long travel kit. That is, long travel back in the day. Both forks were set up for 63mm. And both forks are special because they are specific to the geometry of the Bontrager frames. Which is what I ride.

Anyway, while grilling I hopped on and made some quick brake adjustments and made sure everything was functioning as it should. While spinning around the drive, I felt the reignition of why I love to ride so much. And why I stick with this bike even though most racers I know ride full suspension jobs. This bike allows me to carve through corners, climb steeps and technicals like a goat, feel the trail like nobody's business, and most of all command the glare of those that know the history and pedigree of my decade old steed and what it and I represent; the pinnicle of an era of mountainbiking that no fad today can unseat.

Oh yeah!
